2010 Kanza Bowl
Game Info: Washburn University, representing the MidAmerica Intercollegiate Athletics Association, won the 2nd Annual Lower Kanza Bowl with a 45 to 14 victory over Midwestern State University, representing the Lone Star Conference. Washburn was led by their Most Outstanding Player Award winner Joe Hastings, who caught 10 passes for 223 yards. The Most Outstanding Player Award for Midwestern State went to cornerback Neiko Conway. Washburn rolled up 520 yards of total offense, while holding Midwestern State to 255 total yards. Washburn quarterback Dane Simoneau threw for 350 yards, including three touchdown passes. The leading rusher for Washburn was Terrence Lowe with 73 yards. Midwestern State was led by quarterback Brandon Kelsey, who threw for 50 yards, and rushed for 79 yards. Both Washburn and Midwestern State finished their season with 8-4 records.

Pre-game events: The teams and coaches were hosted at a banquet Friday evening. During the day on Friday, the teams took part in scheduled tours. While the game itself is always the focal point of any bowl game, the Lower Kanza Bowl sets a goal of providing both fun and education with pre-game events. On Friday before the Saturday game, both teams took trips to a couple special places in Topeka. One visit was to the Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site and Museum. link This site was the former Monroe Elementary School represented in the 1954 Supreme Court decision that led to integration of public schools across the country. The second visit was to The Easter Seals Capper Foundation. link The Capper Foundation provides services to primarily children with developmental disabilities. Both visits provided the players and coaches of both teams with moving examples of how individuals can over come significant obstacles in their lives. The final stop for the player's tour was to the Festival of Trees. link This event, where individuals and businesses decorate christmas trees that are sold at auction as a fund raiser for Sheltered Living, Inc., which provides services for men and women with mental retardation and developmental disabilities.
